Mid 19th century straw bonnet

I had the pleasure of creating this mid 19th century straw bonnet for a long time millinery client in Kansas. I believe she has been a client of mine for over four years now! There is no higher compliment than that! This bonnet features sage green and beige fringe with hand made flower trim.

About Susan

Hi! My name is Susan and I am a historian, seamstress, teacher, mother, and wife. My passion for history has manifested itself in the art of recreating clothing from different periods of time. Growing up in the American South, I am heavily schooled in the art of recreating clothing from the 19th century. After nearly a decade of immersing myself primarily in the Victorian period, I found the need to branch out and explore other periods of time. However, it is my connection with the American South and the clothing of rural America that continues to be the driving force behind my designs.

  1. As an author of Regency romances and presently in the process of writing an American historical, I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your photos and descriptions of early nineteenth century dress. Because I appreciate authenticity not only in my characters’ actions but also in dress, your clothing descriptions are inspirational. Thank you. http://www.elaineviolette.com
