We designed this beautiful 1880s era plaid cotton dress for an autumn museum exhibit. This 1880s era bustle gown is also our 2024 DRESS OF THE YEAR! Read on to find out why!
Our 1880s era plaid gown is made from a beautiful lightweight woven cotton from our Victorian era fabric collection and is oh so light and soft! Made in two pieces, the bodice features bias cut ruffles with matching covered buttons. We added one of our beautiful naturally dyed silk ribbons to the neckline!
This gown is a modified version of our Harvest Bustle Gown. In lieu of a tucked center front panel, we added bias cut ruffles to add a little feminine, flirty flair to the skirt!
Our one piece skirt is gathered up at the center back to accommodate a bustle pad and petticoat.
We also designed a custom set of period appropriate combinations (undergarments) for this gown.
We really paid attention to many delicate details on this one! And for that reason (and just because we LOVE THIS ONE SO MUCH), we have named our 1880s Plaid Dress for Day Wear our favorite design of the year!
