Children’s 1820s fashionable clothing

We made this adorable 1820s era boy’s suit and girl’s dress for the c.1820 Church-Waddel-Brumby House Museum in Athens, Georgia. We worked with museum staff to design clothing suitable for the original residents’ twin children at age 12. We worked with a popular period color palette that also complimented the house museum’s interior. Didn’t they turn out fantastic!

1820s Boy’s suit of cotton and linen. Suit consists of shirt, waistcoat, coat, trousers, and braces.

Design inspiration for the girl’s dress came from an extant gown in the collection of Traveller’s Rest in Nashville.

About Susan

My interest in historical costume began at a very early age. I knew by age 5 I wanted to be a designer. Over the years I have been fortunate enough to turn my passion into a full time business. You can find my costumes onstage in NYC, on the big screen, and in museums around the globe.
