The American South Dress

$365.00$395.00

The American South Dress is inspired by a variety of mid 19th century work dresses including The Furr Homespun Dress (c. 1860s) from Stanley, North Carolina and a similar period homespun dress from Alabama. Both gowns are currently in private collections.

The silhouette of The American South gown is designed to represent the traditional cut of a working gown from the mid 19th century. The dress features a fully lined, loose fitting bodice gathered gently under the bust and at the center back. Piping adorns the neckline.

The sleeves are cut moderately to encourage movement and have matching piping at the armscye. The narrow cuff closes with a single button.

The full, gathered skirt is secured to the bodice via a fitted waistband. The skirt is hemmed to the ankle and has our signature hem protector.

The gown closes at the center front with buttons. Shown over over extra full petticoats (not included).
